Food by Breda Murphy

Tucked away from Whalley’s main street near the railway station, this little treasure of a restaurant and deli is bright, airy and modern. The food reflects the surroundings, with authentic dishes created on-site from fresh produce, with a modern twist and healthier lifestyle in mind. Breda sources as much of her food as possible locally and suppliers include Alpe’s Butchers in Clitheroe, Carefoot’s Butchers in Longridge, Wellgate Fisheries, Swarbrick’s Chickens and Jackson’s Creamery, with free-range eggs from farms in Chipping and Bashall Eaves.

Breda’s impressive career started at the famous Ballymaloe Cookery School in Ireland, where she became the academy’s youngest ever teacher. Following spells in top kitchens in London and Ireland, she took over as head chef at the Inn at Whitewell, where the restaurant picked up a hatful of awards under her leadership. Food by Breda Murphy’s menus are influenced by her wide culinary knowledge and experience from Ireland, South East Asia and local classic British dishes.

Food for thought…

  • You can spot Breda’s Irish heritage in her Dingle pie, while fruit juices and honey come from Ballycross and goodies from Wicklow Fine Foods.
  • The car park is quite small, but don’t be put off if it is full up, as there is additional parking across the road.
  • As well as the restaurant and deli, Breda runs a successful outside catering business and popular homemade frozen food service – fish pie, beef rending and the goats cheese parcel being top sellers.
  • Check out Breda’s own brand of jams, preserves and chutneys, as well as unusual gifts and tableware.
  • Breda’s opens for private bookings of 25 or more people.
