Harrison and Kerr

Long-term employee Roger Hope took over this traditional butchers last year and continues to fly the flag for old-fashioned customer service. Fresh pies are baked daily by Clitheroe Market’s Cliff Ferguson and Hanson's Bakery in Colne, poultry is from Atkinson's of Padiham and pork comes from Preston Meats. Bowland Foods at Preston is another meat supplier and lots of in-season game comes from Ian Scott of the Gledstone Estate. Farmer Edward Jackson from Wiswell has been supplying Harrison and Kerr with free-range Christmas turkeys for more than 21 years.

As well as buffets and outside catering, the deli side of the business boasts Harrison’s own-cooked beef, which is prepared on-site with no additives - just salt, pepper and top quality meat - and the resulting delicious stock is also sold in the shop. There are three sorts of black pudding, including a low-fat variety from Phil Cross and a popular higher fat variety made in-house.

Food for thought...

  • For a traditional butcher, Harrison and Kerr's does stock some unusual things, such as kangaroo and ostrich meat.
  • Natural and coloured sheepskins adorn the shop - one customer even brought in a carpet swatch to ensure they had the exact colour he wanted.
