La Locanda

This Italian restaurant, located in the small village of Gisburn, manages to meld traditional Italian cooking and expertise with great local produce.

Every day, between six and 10 different varieties of homemade pasta are made, using authentic Italian ingredients. Fresh produce, however, is sourced locally, including meat, milk and cream from Gisburn farms, vegetables from Richard Wellock and Sons in Trawden and seafood from the Fish House in Clitheroe, as well as Ribble Valley trout and halibut from the Lancashire coast.

The restaurant looks tiny from the outside, but somehow owners Cinzia and Maurizio Bocchi have managed to create an eating space that does not feel crowded at all and includes a cellar of really good Italian wines to boot.

Food for thought…

  • La Locanda does a great deal for the community and has partnerships with Gisburn Primary School, the Tiny Tots Toddler Group and Gisburn Playing Fields Committee, as well as hosting regular fundraising events for breast cancer.
  • They absolutely love children at La Locanda, so much so that they eat for free on Sundays if their parents eat from the a la carte menu.
  • You can buy an increasing range of direct-from-Italy goodies from the restaurant, including Taleggio cheese from Lombardy, Biella-Piemonte beer and 18-month matured parma ham. Check out their selection of 25 homemade ice creams and sorbets, too.
  • La Locanda opens at lunchtime for private bookings of 10 or more people.
