Taste @ Clitheroe

A relative newcomer to Clitheroe, Taste is off the town's main street, tucked away in the Swan Courtyard – a beautifully preserved stone built stableyard that used to house the horses and carriages for the Swan and Royal Hotel. Look out for the cobbled entrance between the hotel and Banana News.

Deliberately and actively sourcing the best available produce "with a conscience," Taste is a deli and café bar specialising in local, organic and fair trade produce, and is an ever-developing emporium of goodies. Local goods include cheese from Leagram's Organic Dairy, Dew-lay, Singleton's and Mrs Kirkham's, Bowland Outdoor Reared pork and beef, Farmhouse Fare organic puddings, Alston Dairy produce, Bowland spring water, Clitheroe honey, coffee from Exchange Coffee, Mellor Made Meals, Lower Gazegill Farm organic meats and bread from Waterfield's.

There is an array of other products, either fair trade, organic, or both, and you can "try before you buy" from the café and take-away menus, including fresh handmade soups, quiches, sandwiches, cakes and desserts.

Food for thought...

  • Taste stocks an amazing range of more than 70 organic wines from across the world at any one time and hosts regular wine-tasting sessions.
  • Biodegradable containers are used for olives and other deli goods, the take-away cutlery can be composted and Taste uses environmentally friendly cleaning products.
  • Try Taste's jute shopping bags from Made in Lancashire and fill with their made-to-order gluten-free bread.
  • Taste proprietor Jamila makes up wonderful hampers for picnics or as bespoke gifts and likes nothing better than to fulfil a customer’s request to source something new.
