The Corporation Arms

Known locally as “The Corpor,” the building dates to 1750 and in the early 1900s hosted livestock auctions and competitions – you can still see some of the awards on its walls. After various ownerships, the Macneil and Proctor families purchased it in 2004 and turned it back into a family-run country inn.

Straightforward, great quality pub food is the order of the day here, sometimes with a refreshing, continental twist that gives a good variety of choices. Meat comes from Brendan Anderton in Longridge, vegetables are supplied by Ribble Farm and dairy products are from Gornall’s in Grimsargh, while fish comes from the Fish House in Clitheroe and Neve’s in Fleetwood. Menu favourites include their steak and ale pie, Lancashire hotpot and spinach and mushroom lasagne.

Food for thought…

  • Owners Paul, who trained with Gary Rhodes, Helen and Kevin are all trained chefs, who have spotted that their customers are often looking for a lighter option. As a result, the vast majority of dishes are also available in half portions.
  • Outside you will see an original drinking trough that dates back to the18th century. It is reputed that Oliver Cromwell watered his horse here on a journey from Stonyhurst to Preston.
  • The owners have branched out with the Corpor Deli in Longridge, which offers meals made at the Corporation Arms, as well as chocolate and continental foods.
