The Red Pump Inn

This traditional country inn had a real shake-up when Martina and Jonathan Myerscough took it over in 2005. It now has three new guest rooms, a great restaurant, small café, bar and snug set in lovely countryside. The Myerscoughs have gone out of their way to support local suppliers, believing that “fresh is best,” both in sourcing products and the on-site preparation of food.

Extra matured beef is from farms on Pendle Hill, lamb is from Bowland and Bolton Abbey, chicken and duck from Johnson and Swarbrick in Longridge, cheese from Proctor’s in Chipping and ice cream from Uncle Bob’s, as well as a huge range of game from local estates. Local ale is from Grindleton Brewhouse, Moorhouses and Bowland Breweries.

The Red Pump is an egalitarian sort of place and you will feel comfortable there, whether you are wearing shooting tweeds, muddy walking boots or designer clothes.

Food for thought…

  • They make special flat skinless sausages and burgers for the children’s menu. Thursday is steak night and Friday features great fish and seafood on the specials board.
  • The Red Pump makes its own chutneys, jams, breads, cakes and biscuits, which guests can buy and take home. The baking is now so popular that regular customers pop in to grab the “almost healthy” chocolate and beetroot cake, and home made pates.
