The Three Fishes

Nigel Haworth and Craig Bancroft of Northcote Manor-fame purchased the 400-year-old Three Fishes in 2004, carrying out a sensitive refurbishment and creating a fabulous pub with great food.

At least 95 per cent of the menu is locally sourced, with a platter of 10 different Lancashire cheeses, Ireland’s famous black pudding, Bowland lamb, pork and beef, and house cured meats from Lancashire and Cumbria. You will find some unusual local specialities to try, including honeycomb tripe, Lancashire curd and cockles, and menu items that celebrate their origins, such as Ascroft’s cauliflower fritters, Walling’s Farm Free range and Gloucester old spot chipolatas.

With garden terraces in the summer and crackling log fires in the winter, friendly and knowledgeable service, the best cask ales from Thwaites and other local breweries, ciders, guest beers and fine wines, it is no surprise that the Three Fishes has scooped up many major national awards in the past few years.

Food for thought…

  • The walls of the pub feature stunning black and white photographs of local suppliers.
  • The children’s menu features exactly the same attention to detail and local sourcing policy as the adult one.
  •  Although you can’t book for less than eight people, there is lots of “tucked away” space, so you are not likely to be disappointed. If you can, head for the room with the toasty fire.
