This great new addition to the Ribble Valley food scene is dedicated to children – and their parents will have a fantastic meal, too! One-year-old Billy Bell was the inspiration for parents Kath and Chris to start this venture, so junior customers have their own blackboard menu, a great selection of games and an outdoor play area. Chris may have an international CV, including head chef at Heathcote’s, training with Paul Rankin at Roscoff’s, the Northern Ireland Chef of the Year Award and the Gordon Ramsay Scholarship, but there is nothing fussy or pretentious about his cooking. Vegetables come from Ribchester’s allotments, pork from Alan Davies at Pinfold Farm, meat from Brendan Anderton and the Ribble Valley Meat Company, duck and chicken from Goosnargh, and cheese from Mrs Kirkham’s. Children particularly enjoy the cod and bangers, while their parents can feast on wild duck and other seasonal offerings. Very much part of Ribchester’s Roman heritage, the White Bull has four columns at its entrance, which are thought to have been part of a Roman temple, and there are the remains of a Roman bathhouse beyond the beer garden and play area. Food for thought…
